It seems everyone is going through something. 

Are you ok?

Recently, I find it hard to ask people what they are going through because they may be unwilling to share.

But that’s not the full picture.

I’m afraid that I won’t be able to help. I also don’t want to reciprocate and share my own struggles and challenges. So I keep quiet and keep the conversations shallow.

However, I’m not a superhero, and I shouldn’t even pretend to be. God is the one that can help them and I can talk to Him through prayers. I can pray for and along with them.

Also, God can use anyone to answer my prayers including the person I’m unwilling to share my problems with.

I learn new things whenever I read the story of Joseph. For example, the way the butler introduced Joseph to Pharaoh could have been an epic failure.

But before we get into that, let’s go back to earlier in the story.

Joseph was in prison allegedly for attempted rape. The king’s butler and baker were thrown into the same prison because they offended the king.

Despite his own dire situation of false accusation, Joseph noticed that they were both sad and he asked why. They told him they both had dreams and there was no one to interpret the dreams.

Who would have known that a random foreigner in prison could possibly have a solution to their problems? He interpreted their dreams while acknowledging that God is responsible.

Joseph could have kept quiet about his own problems. Think about it. How could you, after solving someone’s problems shamelessly say you need help, right?

Not Joseph.

After interpreting the dream, he asked for a favour too. He told the butler, please remember me when you get to the palace.

“But remember me when it is well with you, and please show kindness to me; make mention of me to Pharaoh, and get me out of this house. For indeed I was stolen away from the land of the Hebrews; and also I have done nothing here that they should put me into the dungeon.”

The butler forgot for a while, but eventually, when the King also ran into dream trouble, the butler remembered Joseph and introduced him to Pharoah.

He said in Genesis 41:12

“There was a young Hebrew man with us in the prison who was a slave of the captain of the guard. We told him our dreams, and he told us what each of our dreams meant.”

Now, put yourself in Pharaoh’s shoes.

How confident are you to bring an inexperienced (young) foreigner (Hebrew) who is also a convict (in prison) on attempted rape charges against one of your key military men to help out with national matters?

Imagine King Charles is looking for a solution to a problem and someone in the palace mentions an illegal immigrant who was trafficked across the channel and is currently in Belmarsh prison on alleged rape crime as a potential solution.

But Pharaoh ‘sent for Joseph at once’.

What a story!

So, XYZ? How are you doing?

I may not have a solution, but I can pray with you. Or we can pray together.

Joseph was released instantly, clothed, and given a new job offer that included a relocation package, permanent residency, a wife and diplomatic powers – straight from prison.

That’s what I’m talking about.
