Choose Yourself To Believe In Miracles And Come To God in Faith

Choose Yourself

Choose yourself to believe in miracles, and approach with faith because the promise is available to whoever believes.

Ibukun Onitiju

Welcome to the final part of the #MiracleSeries. Read Part 1 and Part 2.

In the last post, I wrote about divine selection. But sometimes it is difficult to believe that God has chosen you when your life resembles a failed effort.

When you feel that;

  • You are forgotten and lost.
  • The circumstances of your birth, or early childhood has made you a burden to others with no love.
  • You have tried multiple times and failed. You’ve now become a joke in the eyes of everyone.
  • When you’re about to break through, life kicks the can further forward, and leaves you chasing with no stop.
  • God cannot choose you because of the bad things you’ve done.

Not Chosen?

It is possible that:

  • no matter how hard you try, you are not getting results.
  • you are on a path to failure
  • your past has negatively influenced your present and threatens your future

Choose yourself – Canaanite Woman got a miracle

Matthew 15 vs 21-28. This woman chose herself and her daughter for a miracle.

21 Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22 A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.”

23 Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.”

24 He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”

25 The woman came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said.

26 He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”

27 “Yes it is, Lord,” she said. “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.”

28 Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment. (Emphasis mine)

Choose yourself – Bartimaeus received sight

Mark 10 tells the story of blind Bartimaeus. He shouted to get Jesus’ attention. At one point the people around him tried to shut him up. The more they tried, the more he raised his voice until Jesus stopped and attended to him.

46Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (which means “son of Timaeus”), was sitting by the roadside begging. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

48 Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

49 Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”

So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” 50 Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.

51 “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him.

The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.”

52 “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road. (Emphasis mine)

Choose yourself – Woman received healing

There was another woman suffering from a health challenge for many years. She’s been ‘everywhere’ with no solution. On this day, she chose herself, saying if I can just touch the hem of His garment, I will be healed. Jesus was on his way to attend to someone else, then this woman ‘gatecrashed the party.’

Here’s the story in Luke 8:41-56

41 Then a man named Jairus, a synagogue leader, came and fell at Jesus’ feet, pleading with him to come to his house 42 because his only daughter, a girl of about twelve, was dying.

As Jesus was on his way, the crowds almost crushed him. 43 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, but no one could heal her. 44 She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped.

45 “Who touched me?” Jesus asked.

When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you.”

46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.”

47 Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. 48 Then he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.”(Emphasis mine)

There are many more stories in the bible of people who chose themselves and gatecrashed the party to be blessed.

Friends brought a man to Jesus for healing. They couldn’t get access because of the crowd, so they took off the roof to get access. (Luke 5:17-39).

Vs 20 “When Jesus saw their faith, he said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.”

Vs 24b – Vs 26

… So he said to the paralyzed man, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” 25 Immediately he stood up in front of them, took what he had been lying on and went home praising God. 26 Everyone was amazed and gave praise to God. They were filled with awe and said, “We have seen remarkable things today.”

Choose Yourself for a Miracle

There are a few things in common with all these examples

  1. The people involved chose themselves. Jesus was going about his day, but these people recognise that they need him.
  2. They ‘gatecrashed the party’ to get their miracle.
  3. The people had faith and it helped them access the miracle.

God knew about the gatecrash. He designed and made provision for us to ‘gatecrash’ because we were outsiders, but now gracefully welcomed into God’s kingdom.

Whoever comes, whoever believes

John 6:37 brings it together.

37 All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away.

John 6:37

The Greatest Miracle Ever!

God didn’t select a few, He chose whoever believes. Whoever believes is so important to God that He gave up his son for whoever believes.

  • Sinner? No problem, whoever believes
  • Failing constantly? No problem, whoever believes
  • Feeling unloved? No problem, whoever believes
  • Failed Marriage? No problem, whoever believes
  • Health challenges? No problem, whoever believes
  • Lost a job? No problem, whoever believes

Whoever believes can get a miracle. You can get a miracle.

Here’s a beautiful verse in John 3:16

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (Emphasis mine)

John 3:16

Isn’t this amazing? Wow!

You didn’t gatecrash, God already reserved your seat and gave you an open invitation.

I believe in miracles because I can choose myself to come to God.

So choose yourself, and come to Jesus. He will never drive you away. In fact, He is always on the lookout for ‘whoever believes’.

This season is a timely reminder of the biggest miracle we can receive.
